Payment Processor Stripe Surpasses Facebook in Terms of Value

Italian Fine for Facebook Over Data Protection

Social network Facebook has to pay a fine of 7 million euros in Italy. The company has misled users about what data it collects and how it uses it to make money.

A few years ago, market watchdog Autorità Garante Della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) already fined Facebook 5 million euros for the same offence.

Then Facebook also had to adjust its working method. The new fine was imposed because the American company did not.

While Facebook no longer advertises that the social network is free, the company still does not provide “direct and clear information about the collection and use of data about its users,” the AGCM said.

“That is information that consumers need to decide whether they want to use the service.”
