Kyiv: Russian Attacks on Energy-Critical Infrastructure
Russia primarily bombed critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine on Monday, according to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky. He said that Iranian drones were also used.
The Ukrainian armed forces speak of 75 missiles, 41 of which have been shot down.
According to local authorities, the bombings led to power and water failures in the western city of Lviv. Power outages have also been reported in northeastern Poltava. In addition, the city and region of Kharkiv are also reporting the loss of power and drinking water facilities as a result of the bombings.
The missile strikes come shortly after a suspected attack on a relatively new Russian road bridge connecting the Crimean peninsula to Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has called this an attack on critical Russian infrastructure. He will meet with his Security Council on Monday.
The air strikes are believed to be retaliation for the road bridge’s damage on Saturday.
