Canada is Also Starting to Distribute Pfizer Vaccines
Canada will begin distribution of Pfizer and BioNTech’s corona vaccine on Monday. The first shipment arrived in the North American country on Sunday night, CBC reports.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it “good news” that the first batch has arrived. “But the fight against Covid-19 is not over yet,” he stressed on Twitter.
The prime minister has previously predicted that his country will receive 249,000 doses of the corona vaccine this month. The first 30,000 doses must be in on Monday.
Canada is one of the first countries in the world to approve the drug for use. Local media reports that Québec, the most affected province, will receive the corona vaccine on Monday. It is still unclear when it will be the turn of the other provinces.
The military in charge of distribution, Dany Fortin, emphasized in Canadian media on Sunday that the distribution of the drug is on schedule. He said counties could start vaccinating people with the vaccine “in the next few days”.
The corona vaccine has also been approved in Canada’s neighbouring country, the United States, and distribution is already underway. EU member states such as the Netherlands are still waiting for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to evaluate the product.
