Erdogan Hopes for Better Relations With the EU and US in 2021
Turkey hopes to “turn a page” in its relationship with the United States and the European Union in the new year.
So said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan complained that his Western partners had unfairly treated his country.
Turkey is currently at odds on a variety of issues with both NATO ally US and the EU. Washington imposed sanctions because Turkey bought the Russian anti-aircraft system S-400.
There are arguments with the EU about the search for raw materials in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Erdogan complained that Western powers “measure double standards” in those files. “We hope the EU gets rid of its strategic blindness as soon as possible,” he told parliamentarians from his AK Party.
Erdogan also expressed the expectation that US President-elect Joe Biden will see the importance of the relationship between his country and Turkey.
