Greta Thunberg Critical of Progress Five Years After the Paris Agreement
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has spoken critically in a video about countries that have signed the Paris climate agreement.
According to Thunberg, five years later, the countries have done too little to really make a difference.
“A lot has happened since 2015, but the action we need is far from insight,” said the Swedish. In Paris, it was agreed that global warming should be limited to an average of 2 degrees Celsius.
According to the United Nations, the world is heading for warming of 3 degrees Celsius with current emissions.
“We are still quickly going in the wrong direction. The people making the decisions are all wasting precious time finding loopholes and using empty words,” said Thunberg.
“Our hope is focused on the people, the people. They can make a difference,” Thunberg continues. The 17-year-old activist says he has no faith in world leaders.
On Saturday it will be five years since the Paris climate agreement was signed. Worldwide there are 2500 demonstrations for more action against climate change, and many meetings are online because of the coronavirus.
