Guterres Thinks Climate Conference will Not Get A Good Result
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres thinks the upcoming climate summit in Glasgow will not lead to the desired result.
According to Guterres, the promises made by countries before the summit will lead to a temperature rise of 2 degrees at best.
Guterres calls the current state of affairs “a disaster”. According to the UN boss, there is still enough time to make good agreements. The summit lasts almost two weeks.
The Portuguese are a strong supporter of taking strong action to combat climate change. He often calls on countries and companies to do more than is currently the case.
According to the UN boss, there is too little trust between countries in the G20. The leaders of those countries will meet this weekend in Rome, where the approach to the climate crisis is already being discussed. Guterres says countries need to work on this. He previously warned that the mistrust between world powers could cause the climate summit in Glasgow to fail.
