Hack at Knauf Building Materials was Ransomware
The attack on the Knauf Group at the end of June is claimed by the ransomware gang Black Basta.
On June 29, the German Knauf Group, which you mainly know for its plaster material, fell victim to a cyber attack. Sites worldwide were affected. Many of the software systems were shut down (preventively or otherwise), but the production lines continued to run.
Meanwhile, ransomware gang Black Basta has claimed responsibility for the attack, tech site Bleepingcomputer reports. The gang says it has published about 20% of the captured files.
It includes samples of emails, user logins, employee data, and more. The gang hopes, if possible, to persuade Knauf to pay a ransom not to publish the rest of the information.
Black Basta has not been around for very long. The group’s first ransomware attacks date back to April 2022. However, the double extortion model, which threatens to publish sensitive information, soon claimed victims, including at the American Organization for Dentists, where the personal data of those dentists were stolen.
