More Travel Restrictions for Italians During the Holidays
Italians will face more travel restrictions around the holidays. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government has, among other things, decided to halt travel between regions from December 21 to January 6.
Exceptions can still be made, for example for people who have to travel for work or medical treatment.
A partial lockdown is currently already in force in Italy to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The country is divided into three risk zones, which are differentiated by colour codes: red, orange and yellow.
In the red areas, people should stay at home where possible, while travel between the less affected yellow zones is still allowed.
This will temporarily change around the holidays. Italians are not allowed to leave their place of residence on December 25, 26 and January 1. It probably will not stop at those measures.
The government is also expected to decide on a mandatory quarantine period of 10 days for people coming from abroad. One of the purposes of this measure is to prevent people from skiing in neighbouring countries.
