Putin Sees Goal of Special Military Operations Approaching

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his annual press conference that the goal of the invasion of Ukraine is being achieved.

He said that the military situation is changing dramatically and that Russian troops are advancing along the entire front line in what Putin calls “the special military operation”.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 following the fighting in the Ukrainian region of Donbas that broke out in 2014.

Putin wants to prevent Ukraine from becoming a member of NATO and is eyeing large parts of the south and east of Ukraine. He has already annexed four provinces without having conquered them completely. In 2014, the Crimean peninsula was added to Russia.
