Too Many Questions: Motorola Folding Phone Postponed

Lenovo brings Motorola Razr to the market later than it had initially been planned. The manufacturer states that the demand for the new version of the classic folding telephone is higher than expected. Lenovo is going to use the extra time to increase production.

Lenovo has reported the delay to American media such as The Verge. In an explanation, the company says that both the start time of the presale and the store sale have been adjusted to meet consumer demand. Presale should have started on Thursday and store sales would begin in January.

Lenovo does not expect a “significant shift”, but does not mention a new date on which the device should be available.

“Demand is high, and as a result, it has quickly exceeded delivery expectations,” the manufacturer cites as a reason. It is not known how many Motorola Razr models Lenovo planned to make.

The new Motorola Razr is a tribute to the classic folding phone from the early 2000s. The 2019 variant is a fully-fledged “foldable” smartphone with two screens, good cameras and the Android operating system. A nod to the old Razr could of course not be missed.

The new phone has a “retro mode”. In that mode, a classic T9 keyboard (“typing” with the number keys on your phone) appears on the lower half of the screen when the phone is opened.

The device should cost 1500 dollars in the United States.
