Trump Administration Does Not Give Up Legal Battle With TikTok
President Donald Trump’s administration is not giving up its legal battle with the Chinese app TikTok.
The government officially filed an appeal on Monday against a court decision favouring TikTok from earlier this month.
TikTok had been proved right by a second US judge in the objection filed against Trump’s order to transfer all US activities to a party in the United States. Previously, another judge already issued a similar judgment.
The authorities were not allowed to impose restrictions on the use of TikTok in the US by the judges to enforce self-will. In practice, the restrictions would amount to shutting down the app, which is going too far according to the judges.
Trump issued a presidential decree in August ordering Bytedance, the Chinese owner of the wildly popular movie app with more than 100 million US users, to divest US operations within 90 days.
Washington recently decided not to give TikTok a renewed delay for this. However, talks between the company and the government about the forced sale continued unabated.
