Twitter Now Supports Multiple Physical Security Keys
Good news for those who have their account managed by several people. It is now possible to link multiple security keys to a Twitter profile.
Twitter has been offering multi-factor authentication for a while. In the simplest form, this means that you receive a code by text message or in a verification app every time you want to log in to a new device.
Those who want to go one step further can purchase a security key. This is a special USB stick that you have to insert into your computer to access your account. There are variants for mobile devices that also support Bluetooth or NFC.
Until now, you could only link one key to an account on Twitter. That is now being adjusted so that multiple security keys can gain access.
That may seem like a detail, but it is helpful for specific profiles such as politicians. After all, they are more often a target of hackers but often have their account managed by employees. This means that a password is passed on, and in some cases, that password is not too complex. Without multi-factor authentication, all you have to do is guess that password and log in to someone’s account.
In time, Twitter wants to go one step further and give users the choice to make security keys to the primary login method. From then on, you can choose to only log in to your account if you have your physical security key.
