
UN Warns of Shortages After Myanmar Earthquake
The United Nations has sounded the alarm about the situation in the earthquake area in Myanmar.
“Shelter, clean water, and medicines are scarce,” said a coordinator of aid organisation OCHA via video link from Yangon.
People in the affected areas spend the night in the open air because there is no electricity or running water.”
In Myanmar, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake caused large-scale destruction on Friday. The death toll has risen to 2719 and is likely to rise further, according to the country’s military rulers.
Hundreds of people are still missing there. In neighboring Thailand, a skyscraper under construction collapsed. The national death toll is twenty.
