Google Has Made Agreements With News Providers to Pay for Journalistic Articles
Google has made agreements with news providers in Germany, Australia and Brazil to pay for journalistic articles.
These are contributions to a new news service that the tech giant will launch later this year. Google reports this on its blog.
Google is still talking to media parties in other countries about cooperation and license payments. In Germany, the company has now entered into a partnership with the newspapers Der Spiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to a top Google executive, “good journalistic stories” will be paid, although no financial details have been reported.
Google argues that high-quality journalism is now of paramount importance, given the corona crisis and the global debate surrounding racism.
The American company has been under pressure from news providers and authorities for years about its handling of news articles and Google’s secure grip on digital ads.
Facebook is also under attack for this matter.
