BioNTech: Vaccine Can Be Adapted to A Mutation in Six Weeks
The co-founder of Germany’s BioNTech says it is “very likely” that the company’s vaccine will also work against the new variant of the coronavirus, which has surfaced in the UK.
Ugur Sahin emphasized that in principle, a new vaccine can also be made within six weeks that is adapted to “this new mutation”.
The new virus variant is said to be extra contagious, and that is causing primary international concern.
Many countries have halted air traffic from the United Kingdom to prevent the spread of the mutated version of the virus.
On Monday, the EU gave the green light for the use of the corona vaccine from the companies BioNTech and the American Pfizer.
Many EU countries want to start vaccinating citizens before the end of the year.
