Oldest Panda in Captivity Died in China

The oldest panda living in captivity died at the age of 38 at the zoo in the Chinese city of Chongqing.

According to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, Xinxing’s health has deteriorated rapidly since October 21.

Xinxing suffered from dizziness. In the days that followed, the panda became short of breath, started to cough and had difficulty defecating. Several medical experts tried to save Xinxing, but failed. she died on December 8, the zoo announced on Monday.

The autopsy revealed that the panda’s organs were failing due to age. As a result, she developed, among other things, coughing. A panda that is 38 can be compared to a human of 110.

Xinxing was one of the most famous pandas in China. She was born in the wild in 1982.

When she was about a year old, she was caught and taken to a zoo. Xinxing is the mother of one of the largest panda families in China. She has at least 150 offspring.
