Instagram Founders Launch News App
The app, which was given the name Artifact, should present you with an AI-aggregated news feed of articles, following the example of TikTok, among others.
Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, the gentlemen who invented Instagram years ago and sold it to Facebook/Meta a few years ago, are back with a new project. The developers are launching a news app called Artifact, which stands for ‘articles, facts and artificial intelligence’. That’s what they tell tech site Platformer.
It is a news aggregator that presents you with an AI-built feed modelled on TikTok’s algorithm. The more articles you read, the more personal your news feed should become.
The app is currently still in the beta phase, but Artifact has jumped into the middle of an industry that has already caused controversy. Think, for example, of discussions about ‘bias’ in the news items that are put forward on Twitter and other platforms. Systrom and Krieger say their feed will show articles from both left-wing and right-wing publications, but posts that “promote lies” will be blocked.
