Almost all residents of nursing homes in England have been vaccinated against corona. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson speaks of a crucial milestone in the fight against the virus.

According to the NHS national health service, an initial injection has now been offered at over 10,000 English nursing homes with elderly residents.

However, it is not clear how many people refused voluntary vaccination. Also, some homes were not yet accessible due to local fire, British media report.

The next phase against corona should be reached across Britain in two weeks.

This concerns all other people most at risk of infection, such as all older people in nursing homes and their carers, and all people over 70. In total, 15 million Britons would have received the first dose.

Due to the corona crisis, tens of thousands of Britons have to wait incredibly long for an operation. At the start of the corona pandemic a year ago, there were 1,600 patients on the waiting list, now 192,000.

Over 34,000 Covid-19 patients are treated in the hospitals. More than 3800 of them are ventilated.
