British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has come under further pressure to apologise for his earlier false accusations against Sir Keir Starmer after the opposition leader was harassed by a protesting mob and evicted by police. Johnson, however, refuses to heed the call for an apology.

Videos circulating on the internet Monday evening show Starmer being tackled by protesters near Parliament in London. The demonstrators referred to Savile and shouted to Starmer, among other things, that he is a “traitor” and “protects paedophiles”. Police officers eventually manoeuvred the Labor politician into a patrol car, driving away with flashing lights. Scotland Yard said two people were arrested after throwing a traffic cone at officers.

In a debate in parliament, the prime minister had wrongly accused his rival Starmer of letting the notorious BBC presenter and sex criminal Jimmy Savile walk away from his position at the time. Johnson immediately received strong criticism with his slash from his own circle but refused to apologise.

The prime minister called the incident of which Starmer was the victim on Twitter on Monday “disgraceful” and “completely unacceptable”, but that was it.

Several MPs from Johnson’s Conservative Party on Tuesday demanded an apology from the prime minister and called for Trumpian politics to be prevented. However, state Secretary for Digitization Chris Philp defended the Prime Minister. According to Philp, Johnson could not be held responsible for the protesters’ behaviour.
