It’s Already 2025 Here: The Places Where New Year was Heralded
We still have a few hours to wait, but on the other side of the globe, it is already time. In Kiribati, the new year is being celebrated.
The island republic of Kiribati is the first country in the world to ring in the new year. Kiribati is located in the Pacific Ocean, more than 6,000 kilometres east of Australia. It is fourteen hours earlier there than here.
After Kiribati, the small island state of Tonga celebrates the new year, followed by countries such as New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea.
In eastern Australia, the clock is also almost midnight. And that is already being celebrated enthusiastically. It is eleven hours earlier there than here. At the Sydney Opera House, many fireworks are already being shot off.
Partygoers in Perth, on the west coast of Australia, will have to wait a little longer. There, the clock strikes midnight two hours later.
The last areas that will ring in the year 2025 are American islands, also in the Pacific Ocean. These include Baker Island and Howland Island.
