NATO Chief: Russia Ready for Invasion Within Three Weeks
Russia could be ready for an invasion of Ukraine at the end of this month, says Dutch NATO chief Rob Bauer. According to the right-hand military man of NATO boss Jens Stoltenberg, the country would have sent enough troops to the border for “a serious invasion”.
As a result, the western alliance is considering sending more troops to eastern member states.
Bauer notes that NATO does not know whether Russia wants to invade Ukraine. Moscow has gathered more than 100,000 military personnel in the border region and needed support. “That is something that we see more and more collected” along the Russian-Ukrainian border and in the Russian-friendly neighbour, Belarus, says the Dutch admiral. “That’s very disturbing.”
With tens of thousands of Russian soldiers in Belarus, Ukraine now also feels threatened from the north. The capital Kyiv is not very far from the Belarusian border.
Bauer is chairman of the alliance’s military committee and thus the chief military adviser to NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.
