Twitter Shields Trump’s Message Again, White House Reacts Angrily
Twitter has shielded a message from US President Donald Trump for the second time.
Messaging users can still view the tweet about the Minneapolis riots, but are first told that the message violates rules prohibiting the glorification of violence.
Trump had warned that violent crackdowns could be taken during the riots that followed the death of a black prisoner.
“When the looting begins, the shooting begins,” the president wrote.
He initially did this on his own Twitter account, which is followed by more than 80 million users. Twitter posted a warning about the message.
Trump’s message then appeared on the official White House Twitter page. Twitter responded by also shielding that tweet.
The White House reacted furiously: “This tweet violated rules about glorifying violence, but Twitter has decided to allow its platform to be abused by terrorists, dictators and foreign propagandists.”
Trump believes Twitter is targeting Republicans, conservatives and himself. He signed a decree on Thursday that he wants to make social media liable for the content of messages on their sites.
