Russia’s Delayed Victory Parade Held on June 24
The Russian military parade to be held on May 9 during World War II commemoration has been moved to June 24.
The victory parade was cancelled in May due to measures against the coronavirus.
President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that he chose June 24 because the first victory parade was held on that day in 1945.
According to him, Russia is past the peak of the virus outbreak. The parade can only take place if all those present adhere to strict rules.
Thousands of soldiers walk in the victory parade and military vehicles and weapons such as missiles are also displayed.
This year marks 75 years since Nazi Germany was defeated. The Soviet Union’s Red Army was instrumental in pushing back the Nazis, and many Russian casualties occurred.
The end of the war is, therefore, always celebrated in Russia.
