Taliban Call for International Aid for Afghans

The Taliban calls for international aid for the Afghan people facing a humanitarian crisis. According to Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar, the world must support the people “without any political bias and fulfil its humanitarian obligations”.

 

The deputy prime minister and co-founder of the Taliban state that people have no food, shelter, warm clothes, or money in several places. He did so in a video message shared by Afghan state media on Friday.

Since the Taliban took power in August, the economic crisis in Afghanistan has only deepened. According to the United Nations, nearly 23 million people suffer from extreme hunger, about 55 percent of the population. In addition, nearly 9 million people are facing famine. Moreover, because of the winter, concerns about the Afghans are increasing.

Since the Taliban came to power, countries and aid organizations, have provided limited aid to the people of Afghanistan. However, the extremist group is not recognized as the legitimate government. In addition, the Taliban have been labelled as terrorists by several countries, causing Afghan assets abroad to be frozen.
