Bali Keeps Out Foreign Tourists for the Rest of the Year

Foreign tourists are not allowed to come to Bali for the rest of the year. The governor of the Indonesian island has put plans to reopen Bali from next month on hold.

The popular tourist area reopened beaches, temples and other draws for domestic tourists at the end of July and promised that foreigners would be welcome again from September 11.

That plan is now off the table because the number of infections in Indonesia is rising again. Besides, Jakarta has yet to revoke the entry ban for foreigners that came into effect in the spring.

“The central government supports plans to reopen the doors to international tourists. But that requires care, caution, no haste and careful preparation,” said Governor I Wayan Koster.

In Bali, 49 people died from the coronavirus, and more than 4,000 people were infected.

Indonesia had nearly 6,700 corona deaths and more than 153,000 confirmed infections, but the country’s testing capacity is limited, and the actual numbers are probably higher.
