Chelsea Chief Abramovich in Russia-Ukraine Talks
Roman Abramovich, who owned the English football club Chelsea for many years, is taking part in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the armed conflict between the two countries.
The billionaire has complied with a request from Ukraine. Abramovich is seen as a close acquaintance of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I can confirm that Roman Abramovich has been approached to contribute to the talks for a peaceful solution, and he has responded positively,” said a spokeswoman for the Ukrainian delegation. However, in order not to hinder the negotiations, she did not want to give details about the exact role of the businessman.
It is also not entirely clear what exactly the 55-year-old Abramovich’s position at Chelsea is at the moment. He announced this weekend that due to the conflict in Ukraine, he would transfer the club to the foundation of the ‘Blues’. He also probably did this to avoid possible sanctions from the British government.
