Erdogan Calls on Putin to Continue Talks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that the “positive momentum” of previous negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul should be maintained. Both sides could benefit from that.
His office said that Erdogan urged Putin on a ceasefire and the establishment of escape routes. He reiterated his offer to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to come to Turkey for negotiations leading to an end to the war.
On Sunday, Erdogan telephoned Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.
Turkey maintains good relations with Russia and Ukraine. Therefore, the country can play an important role as a mediator in ending the war in Ukraine.
Erdogan received UN chief António Guterres on Monday, travelling to Russia and visiting Ukraine.
