Karl Nehammer Officially Appointed New Austrian Chancellor
On Monday, Karl Nehammer (49) took the oath as the new Chancellor in Austria.
He succeeds Alexander Schallenberg, who has held the position for a month and a half after the resignation of Sebastian Kurz.
Nehammer took the oath to President Alexander Van der Bellen on Monday afternoon. The ceremony could be followed live on Austrian television.
Nehammer’s main task is to restore calm in the coalition of ÖVP and Greens. Nehammer also becomes the new chairman of the Christian Democratic ÖVP.
