Cristiano Ronaldo is not obsessed with milestones: ‘I’m already the best ever, period.’

Cristiano Ronaldo considers himself the best footballer ever. In addition to his impressive figures, the Saudi Al Nassr striker also points to his versatility.
The 39-year-old Ronaldo became the first player ever to win national titles in England, Spain and Italy and has won the Champions League no fewer than five times. In addition, the Portuguese are still the all-time top scorers in the Champions League and have been voted the best player in the world in several elections.

Just before his fortieth birthday (5 February), Ronaldo spoke to El Chiringuito about his legacy. The football legend has now scored 923 goals in his career and may yet reach the magical limit of 1,000 goals.

“If I can score a thousand goals, that would be great. But I’m not fixated on this number,” said Ronaldo. “It’s getting a bit annoying to keep talking about it. If I make it, that’s nice. But I’m already the best footballer ever, period. The numbers don’t lie.”

“I haven’t seen anyone who’s done better. And I mean that sincerely. I’m the most complete player ever. I score headers, I score free kicks, I score with my left and right foot. I’m fast and strong, and I can jump well. You’re lying if you say I’m not complete.”

Ronaldo understands that football fans don’t necessarily see the 215-times international as the best player ever. “People can, of course, be more fans of Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona or Pelé. And I respect that. But I’m the most complete.”

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus striker emphasises that he gets along well with Messi. “I have a very good relationship with him. It’s a healthy rivalry. It’s going to be difficult for anyone to match our numbers.”

Messi currently plays for the American Inter Miami. Ronaldo believes that the level in Saudi Arabia is higher than in Major League Soccer. “Of course it is. People look down on Saudi football. The people who play and work in Saudi Arabia know better.”
