London Launches A Code of Conduct for Google and Facebook

Read Time:45 Second

The UK government announced a series of measures on Friday to limit the power of digital giants like Facebook and Google, both in terms of the use of personal data and online advertising.

The new code of conduct must improve competition and protect consumers, the government said. He followed up on proposals made by the competition watchdog in July and was concerned about the dominance of the American giants.

The intention is that consumers will be able to make choices and that small business will not be left out.

London does recognize the benefits of the major platforms, but notes a ‘concentration of power of a small number of digital companies’. This slows down growth in the sector, slows down innovation and can have negative effects on society.

The new code can force the platforms to be more transparent concerning the services offered and how they handle personal data.
