Temporary Ceasefire in Afghanistan to End Ramadan

Temporary Ceasefire in Afghanistan to End Ramadan

Read Time:38 Second

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has ordered the armed forces to observe a ceasefire as long as the Taliban do.

The extremist Taliban have just announced a three-day truce to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, the Eid al-Fitr. The party starts on Thursday, and the truce would last until Saturday evening.

It comes just days after one of the bloodiest attacks the country has seen in a long time.

On Saturday, bombs exploded at a girls’ school, killing at least 50 and injuring more than 100, mostly school girls.

The Taliban have indignantly contradicted allegations made by the government that they are responsible. They have stressed that they have not carried out any attacks in the city of Kabul for a year.
