The abuse victims who testified against Ghislaine Maxwell (60) reacted with relief to the decision of an American jury to find the British socialite guilty of recruiting underage girls for her ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein. “I’m so grateful.”

Maxwell is guilty of five of a total of six charges, according to the jury. According to prosecutor Alison Moe, she was the “key” in Epstein’s plans to have girls massage himself, in which he would sexually abuse them. Maxwell was also described as “an adult woman who preyed on vulnerable children during the three-week trial.”

“I am so relieved and grateful that the jury has recognized the pattern of predatory behaviour Maxwell has exhibited for years and found her guilty,” said Annie Farmer, one of the victims who testified at the trial. “She has hurt many more women than those who have had the chance to testify in court. I hope this verdict brings comfort to all who need it and shows that no one is above the law.”

Farmer previously told the court that Maxwell gave her a nude massage at Epstein’s New Mexico ranch when she was only sixteen. The other victims also say they were abused when they were minors between 1994 and 2004.

Virginia Giuffre, another Epstein victim who accuses Maxwell of being involved in her abuse, said after the jury’s decision that she “will remember this day forever.”

“My soul has longed for justice for years, and today the jury has given me just that,” Giuffre wrote on Twitter. “I hope today is not the end, but rather another step towards justice. Unfortunately, Maxwell did not act alone. Others must be held accountable. I am confident they will.”

Giuffre is filing a lawsuit against the British Prince Andrew, a former friend of Jeffrey Epstein. She claims Andrew assaulted her several times in 2001 when she was 17 years old. He has denied all allegations.

Another abuse victim accused by Maxwell, Teresa Helm, told the BBC she was deeply grateful “for every brave, courageous and justice-driven person who fought for this result”.

“Ghislaine Maxwell will never again have the opportunity to take anything from anyone,” added Helm. “She won’t be free anymore. But, we survivors, we are free.”

Maxwell, who has barely spoken during the trial, insists she is innocent. But, given her age, it looks like she’ll be incarcerated for life.
